The Elena refuge is a large and comfortable refuge-hotel, mainly frequented by hikers undertaking the Giro del Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc walk). The first refuge, which was destroyed by an avalanche, was built in honour of Queen Elena, consort of King Victorio Emanuele III. It is in a pleasant location half way up the mountain, characterized by vast pastures and spectacular views. The eye-catching Pre de Bard glacier will take your breath away.
